Light Rail Pedestrian and Bicycle Crossing Study

Portland, OR

Project scope includes the preparation of a “best practices” review and evaluation of 14 representative pedestrian/bicycle crossing sites at light rail stations throughout Portland's MAX Light Rail System. Best practices principles were cited from literature sources highlighting pedestrian and bicycle safety conditions that are desirable aspects of LRT system design. The review format included the following report sections: (1) existing conditions; (2) site assessment; (3) principles utilized; and (4) best practices recommendations. The purpose of the study was to indicate typical conditions that need updating within the 22 year old regional system that included five corridors at the time the study was completed in 2008.
