Transit Oriented Development

Highland Park Station Transit Plaza • Farmers Market

Los Angeles, CA

The Highland Park LRT Station incorporate a two-block long transit plaza, along which a weekly Farmers Market serves locals every Tuesday afternoon. The market stretches from the plaza along 58th Street all the way to Figueroa Street. Mr. Glick initially conceived the plaza as a flexible space, inviting such locally generated activities to become reality. The plaza is designed with an arroyo stone tactile strip highlighting the differences between the plaza and adjacent street, Marmion Way. However, the two are located at the same elevation, in order for weekly market activities to occur seamlessly without "trip-hazards" along the public right-of-way.
