Urban Design Guidelines, Central Phoenix / East Valley LRT Project

Phoenix, AZ

Mr. Glick coordinated the urban design guidelines team for Phoenix's first light rail transitway. The study considered all LRT corridor features as urban design elements, including those generally considered civil or systems engineering features. Creating a comfortable experience for the LRT user was the ultimate goal of the guidelines, especially considering the extremely hot, desert-climate conditions inherent in the East Valley/Sonoran Desert climate. Some examples of corridor features as urban design elements include system identity, station platforms and furnishings, facilities, landscaping, and bus connections. The 25 mile corridor running from Phoenix, through Tempe and to Mesa and is now in revenue service.
